Kentucky Fried Chicken, officially known by its acronym KFC, is an American fast food restaurant chain specializing in fried chicken, founded by Harland D. Sanders, which belongs to the Yum! Brands. Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, it has more than 22,000 restaurants in 150 countries.
The group’s origins date back to 1939, when Harland D. Sanders began preparing crispy chicken in a North Corbin, Kentucky restaurant from a recipe with eleven spices and flavorings. However, it wasn’t until 1952 that the first KFC franchise opened in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Secret recipe
Colonel Sanders patented in 1940 the recipe for his fried chicken, which is kept secret. It is known that eleven different spices and flavorings are used mixed with the flour, but all the seasonings used are unknown.11 There is a sheet with the original recipe signed by Sanders himself that was kept in a safe at KFC headquarters in Louisville.11 Only two company executives have access to it, and their names have not been disclosed for security reasons.
